The Bat Cave – the nature at home

Located only 25 km from Brașov and half an hour from Poiana Brașov, in the Moeciu area in the village of Peștera, this tourist gem offers us a unique landscape that will surely take your breath away.

The Bat Cave is part of the Piatra Craiului Park, being a national natural monument. Although this cave has been known by locals for hundreds of years, it received a special interest from speleologists in 1950, when the first excavations and discoveries were made, which ranks it among the first speleological objectives in our country.

 width=Located at an altitude of 950 meters, the Bat Cave stretches for approximately 370m and 109 meters of active gallery through which you can walk with only a lantern at hand.

The entrance to the cave is through a rather narrow corridor, following a grotto with an ascending floor and then the gallery where you can admire various Jurassic calcareous formations, formed over the centuries, including the so-called “Tears of the Earth”.

 width=As you go deeper inside the cave, you will notice how the ceiling changes color and along the gallery a small paradise full of shore, which reaches the heart of the mountain. This landscape will definitely stay alive in your memory, making you want to see it again whenever you have the opportunity.

The Bat Cave is not electrified in order not to alter in any way the conditions necessary for the survival of hundreds of bat species.

Certainly, for many of us, the prospect of walking through a cave full of bats gives us chills, making us feel like we’re in a horror movie. However, you must know that the bats, viewed from a distance, will remain motionless, allowing you to admire them freely.
