What is cellulite and what causes it?
What is cellulite?
Cellulite is the accumulation of subcutaneous adipose tissue, most frequently on the hips, thighs, and buttocks, sometimes extending to the upper part of the hands, the breasts or the lower abdomen.
Although it is present to most women, appearing even from adolescence, it can also be found at men. Cellulite cannot be classified as a disease, but it can create aesthetic discomfort due to the “orange peel” appearance it gives to the skin.
CAUSE
- The estimations say that 80% of women have cellulite. There are a number of factors that determine its appearance, for example:
- The genetic factor;
- Weight fluctuations;
- The accumulation of an excess of liquids in the adipose tissues;
- A poor sex life, the effects of which affect the production of hormones;
- Unhealthy eating habits;
- Stress;
- Sedentarism and lack of physical exercise;
- Use of hormonal contraceptives;
- Obesity (although cellulite also occurs in people who are thin);
- Problems with blood circulation in the respective area of the body;
- The massive accumulation of toxins in the fluids retained subcutaneously;
- Age.
It has been found that as women get older and the skin loses its elasticity, the probability of having cellulite also increases. It often happens that cellulite is the result of several factors, for example, there is a genetic predisposition that can be aggravated by weight fluctuations, repeated diets, hormonal variations, sedentary lifestyle, slow metabolism or insufficient water consumption.
Are there effective methods of treating cellulite?
Although the fight to eliminate cellulite is based on a healthy lifestyle, there are several treatment methods against cellulite, such as:
- Movement;
- Anti-cellulite creams;
- A complete and balanced diet;
- Dry skin brushing;
- Anti-cellulite treatments at beauty salons.
In some cases, for example the use of anti-cellulite creams, the effects are temporary, reappearing after a certain period of time if the person in question does not adopt a healthy diet or does not exercise.
