This place impresses with its beauty, with the culture it carries and the story it tells for more than 800 years.
The town of Prejmer is located 15 km from Brașov, being proud of the most majestic fortified church in the North-Eastern part of Europe, which has been part of the UNESCO world heritage since 1999. The story of this place has its beginnings deeply rooted in history, from the time of the Teutonic knights, who, finding out about the land of Prejmer, from a document of the Hungarian King Andrei II, from 1211, build a church in Gothic style, which dates to this day, preserving its mystery and beauty. Inside the church, which over time suffered a process of erosion but also of restoration, there is a polyptych altar on the theme of the Passion of the Jesus Christ dating from the 15th century.
The fortress around the church is provided with 12 m high and 3 m thick walls, fortified bastions, drawbridges and iron gates, being difficult to conquer by invaders who have longed for the beauties of our country throughout history.
In order to guard the church as well as possible, the fortress of Prejmer was provided with the “death pipe organ”, an assembly of several weapons that were triggered simultaneously when the enemy was close. In total, the Citadel and the fortified Church of Prejmer contained 272 rooms on 4 levels.
There are many legends spread about this fortress, which you will find out when you will visit these places. One of these legends refers to the so-called “Reconciliation Room” where quarreling couples were locked up, having to eat food from a single plate with a single cutlery, standing there until they reconciled.
