St. Ana Lake – a vivid legend

width=It is said that Romania is the country where God trip in the way and poured out his bag with all the beauties of nature that were scattered throughout this blessed territory.

With a glorious history, written over the centuries, Romania bravely resisted all the attacks from the invaders, keeping its true values intact.

You are also a traveler through Romania, I am too, but sometimes we pass careless and indifferent by the true beauties of nature that are hidden, most of the time right next to us.

width=A pearl from Romania’s jewels is Lake St. Ana. Impressive by its beauty, uniqueness and history, this place has become one of the most important touristic objectives of our country.

Located in the Eastern Carpathians, on the border between Harghita and Covasna counties, Lake St. Ana is the only lake of volcanic origin in Europe. Known both for the breathtaking landscape and for the beneficial effects on health, this place makes you return to it with love whenever you have the opportunity.

width=At an altitude of 950m at the bottom of the crater of the extinct Ciomatul volcano in the Puciosu massif, St. Ana Lake is guarded by a dense coniferous forest that hardly allows the insistent rays of the sun to make their way, thus creating an atmosphere conducive to dreams and meditation.

Having a length of 620 m and a width of 460 m, with a depth of about 7 m, St. Ana Lake has the purest water, being completely devoid of oxygen, therefore there is no living thing.

A boat ride on the clear and quiet water of St. Ana Lake is a real source of relaxation and peace, offering food for the soul and eyes but also for health thanks to the negatively ionized atmosphere, which is beneficial for maintaining the health of the locomotor and nervous system.

width=Once you arrive at the shore of St. Ana Lake, silence will envelop you and you will wish you could tell the moment to stop and it would listen to you. Listening to the silence, you will hear the gentle breeze of the wind and the tragic legend that is said to be at the genesis of this lake.

Hundreds of years ago, a fortress led by a fierce master resided in that place. Angered with the 13 virgins from the city, including the beautiful Ana, he harnesses them to a horse-drawn carriage and whips them throughout the city. Exhausted and drained of strength, Ana raises a prayer to God after which she utters a curse: “God let the earth crack now, let us sink too.” Impressed by the torment of the 13 virgins as well as Ana’s prayers, God listens to their prayers and removes the mountain, and from the tears of the girls gives birth to the purest lake in all of Europe.

width=Whether you believe in the legend or not, Lake St. Ana will surely conquer you from the first sight, making you always come back with pleasure.
