Romania’s great skiers
We know… Summer floods your existence, and the sun seems to melt you. How many of you would not like to be on a ski slope right now and be able to enjoy the cool and strong mountain air? Well, we can close our eyes and for a moment imagine ourselves in the mountains, surrounded by an immaculate white and ready to shout “Out of way!”
Skiing is one of the favorite sports of Romanians, the areas dedicated to this sport being full of tourists every season. Although we know the ski sport itself, how many of us know how to give an example of great Romanian skiers?
Skiing brought fame to our country abroad through the prizes won by the great Romanian skiers at various international competitions. Unfortunately, however, this was not publicized at all, and the Romanian skiing champions remained in the shadow of other sports.
Ever since 1948, Romania has participated in the Winter Olympic Games in St. Moritz with a delegation of seven skiers, who opened the way to the taste of international success.
Daniel Nicolae, Mihai Galiceanu, Zsolt Antal, Alexandru Barbu are names that, if you hear them, do not mean much to you. Few people know that they are some of the great Romanian skiers who brought Romania to the first places in international ski competitions.
In 2004, Alexandru Barbu raised the flag of our country at the World Junior Ski Championships held in Maribor, Slovenia, his performance being a first in Romania. He also represented us in 2010 at the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, making a pleasant impression, imposing himself in front of performance skiers from all over the world.
In 2013, we should have congratulated Iulian Pitea and Remus Tudor who took the 2nd and 3rd places in an international men’s skiing competition held in Rasnov, winning against 37 competitors from Russia, Austria, China, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, etc.
If Romania would invest more in this sport, we could definitely stay in the top of the countries that offer the best skiers in the whole world.
In Poiana Brașov, those who are passionate about skiing are invited to express their passion on the most modern slopes. Hotel Alpin provides the beginners with a professional team of ski instructors who will teach you how to turn this sport into a real pleasure.
But, until the arrival of the ski season, Hotel Alpin advise you to enjoy the beauty of summer and not to miss the mountain tan.
