Save the earth to save life! Earth Hour!

What is Earth Hour?

It is a symbolic gesture that we can make on 31st of March between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in order to demonstrate that everyone can have a positive impact in the fight against global warming and climate changing.

It is one of the largest social movements ever seen by mankind” (Desmond Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize)

Earth Hour is an annual international event developed by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which promotes measures to halt environmental degradation. WWF’s mission is to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature, respect and cherish it.
Earth Hour launches a strong message of hope for what we can achieve if we work together. It is scheduled on the last Saturday of every March.

How we do that?

Simple! Turning off all the devices that consume power: light, TV, AC, microwave, computer, etc. – for 60 minutes, as a gesture of support for conservation and ecology of Earth.

This simple gesture, this effort, multiplied worldwide, shows that the minimum energy saved is considerable, and allows everyone to realize how our way of life connects us directly with the environment.

It all started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, when a total of 2.2 million people and more than 2,000 enterprises, companies, factories, stopped the lights for an hour, in sign of solidarity as regards the fight against climate change, to educate people.

Every year, new cities invite residents to turn off the lights.
In 2011, more than 5,200 cities in 135 countries participated simultaneously in the massive campaign on climate change at this show of solidarity that is repeated every year.

One hour a day, this can mean a lot to some of us. But, 1 year later?

Earth Hour is the New Year’s Eve of environment. It enables us to take the pulse of our planet” says Gerald Butts, president and CEO of WWF (World Wildlife Fund)

Saturday March 31st, 2012, Romania will join other countries in the world, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Bistrita became the first capital Earth Hour capital in Romania, by winning the competition organized by WWF – Romania, in the context of Earth Hour event in 2012, with the privilege to host the official Earth Hour event, on March 31, together with WWF Romania.

20 Romanian cities competed for this event.

Earth Hour Ambassador in Romania is Zoli Toth (from the music band System) who was actively involved in the event and in promoting it.

Talking of this, to what extent will this article influence you?
Will you participate to the event?
If you turn off the light for 1 hour and light a candle or more, you can create a romantic background for you and your partner.

Hotel Alpin is involved in this major world event by closing the hotel exterior lighting and logo.
We can save the planet together! Join us!

REMEMBER!! March 31 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.!!
